Women in India

Status of Woman in India

In early times, the status of women in India was inferior to man in the patriarchal society. They are considered as the perfect homemaker in the world.  With their calmness they have the ability to handle the toughest situations. Our man oriented society called them in the names of Saraswati, Durga, Parvati and Kali.

Traditionally, women were considered to be caretakers of home. They had to run the family smoothly, they had to manage the expenses in the most economical way possible, they had to look after aged in-laws, nurture the child, etc. They were expected to obey orders of their husband , the elders of the family, but kept in isolation when it came to major decision related to the family. The women were not too educated in the past eras. But there were women in older days too, who were well educated and led paths of success in many sphere of life, because of support from their families. Tbose women who lead paths of change and brought about a transformation in the way people viewed women in the society.

The scenario of women is slowly changing in recent years. We can see a slow and steady rise of women in all fields of importance. Women of today are not just restricted to cooking and taking care of their households, they have to step out their comfort zones to create their own images in the outside world as well. This is in short, can be termed as women empowerment. Society has now changed its stand and the way it looks at women, due to the progress achieved by women in all spheres of life. Men today are more understanding towards the women in their lives, but also we heard many cases of harassment against women.

Women in India have to face a lot of issues. They have to go through gender discrimination, harassment, sexual abuse, lack of education, dowry-related harassment, gender gap and much more. We must come together to empower women. They must be given equal educational opportunities. Furthermore, they must be paid equally. Moreover, laws must be made more stringent for crimes against women.

India is a country where women are given the status of a goddess. However, the problems they have to face just show the opposite of this concept. One hand they worship them as goddesses and with the other hand, they abuse them endlessly and consider them inferior. Indian women always had some problem or the other to face in society. People evolved and so did the problems, they did not go away but changed from one to another. We need to realize these problems and act on them fast to help our country thrive.

Problems Faced by Women in India

Women are deprived of fundamental human rights. Some of the issues are dowry, domestic violence, acid cases, rape, harassment and many more issues that are faced by women in India. Dowry deaths refer to the deaths of young women who are murdered by the harassment of her husband and relatives.

Being a girl or woman is not easy. Issues hinder the growth of a country and makes the women feel inferior. Gender
discrimination is one of the issues that women are facing in India. Women are not considered equal to men. Women are discriminated at the workplace, society and even at home. In some for the rural areas, girls are still denied to education. Similarly, women don’t get paid as men equally. In some workplaces, women face exploitation and harassment by their superiors. Domestic violence happens more often in India. There comes, dowry system with domestic violence. Even it includes rape, genital mutilation, harassment and many more. The most significant problem that comes with being a girl or woman is being underestimated for knowledge and skills.

Even simple and fundamental human rights are also a struggle for women in India. Women are an essential entity. It is because they have the power to shape the whole nation. However, women are strong enough to face many issues since birth. Throwing acid cases are still happening in India. It makes a dangerous environment for women.

Typically issues start right from a girls birth. Family kills the girl child while expecting a boy child. It is called the female foeticide. Child marriages are one of the problems that women are facing in India. A young girl will be married at an early age. Honour killing is one of the issues that are faced by women in India. A girl will be killed for marrying against the wish of her parents and relatives.

Always remember;  Women's day is celebrated, not to glorify the beauty and grace of women, but to bring about awareness among the public regarding women's safety. Women need to be strengthen themselves by building up their inner strengths. They should work on increasing their moral strength and face the world without fear. Women are taught to be bold and out going in these days of modernism. We should empower the women in our lives to lead independent lives. They should be taught to be self reliant and should not depend on anyone to meet their goal.
